Weaknesses --> Strength

The Perspective of Life

It's all about perspective. Is the glass half empty of half full? Read about a rich city man and his son and their trip to the farm. An inspirational short story with an important moral at the end.

One day a father of a very wealthy family took his son on a trip to the country with the firm purpose of showing his son how poor people live.
They spent a couple of days and nights on the farm of what would be considered a very poor family.
On their return from their trip, the father asked his son, "How was the trip?"
"It was great, Dad".
"Did you see how poor people live?" the father asked.
"Oh yeah" said the son.
"So, tell me, what did you learn from the trip?" asked the father. The son answered: "I saw that we have one dog and they had four.
We have a pool that reaches to the middle of our garden and they have a creek that has no end.
We have imported lanterns in our garden and they have the stars at night.
Our patio reaches to the front yard and they have the whole
horizon.
We have a small piece of land to live on and they have fields that go beyond our sight.
We have servants who serve us, but they serve others.
We buy our food, but they grow theirs.
We have walls around our property to protect us, they have friends to protect them."
The boy's father was speechless.
Then his son added, "Thanks, Dad, for showing me how poor we are."
Isn't perspective a wonderful thing? Makes you wonder what would happen if we all gave thanks for everything we have, instead of worrying about what we don't have.
Appreciate every single thing you have, especially your friends!

Learning How to Write in the Sand

Two friends were walking through the desert. In a specific point of the journey, they had an argument, and one friend slapped the other one in the face.

The one, who got slapped, was hurt, but without anything to say, he wrote in the sand: "TODAY, MY BEST FRIEND SLAPPED ME IN THE FACE".

They kept on walking, until they found an oasis, where they decided to take a bath. The one who got slapped and hurt started drowning, and the other friend saved him. When he recovered from the fright, he wrote on a stone: "TODAY MY BEST FRIEND SAVED MY LIFE".

The friend who saved and slapped his best friend, asked him, "Why, after I hurt you, you wrote in the sand, and now you write on a stone?"

The other friend, smiling, replied: "When a friend hurts us, we should write it down in the sand, where the winds of forgiveness get in charge of erasing it away, and when something great happens, we should engrave it in the stone of the memory of the heart, where no wind can erase it"

The Nails in Your Fence

This inspirational story of a little girl who has problems controlling her bad temper not only learnt how to control it but also learnt the meaning of friendship and how sometimes, the things we say actually hurt the people we love.

There once was a little girl who had a bad temper. Her mother gave her a bag of nails and told her that every time she lost her temper, she must hammer a nail into the back of the fence.
The first day the girl had driven 37 nails into the fence. Over the next few weeks, as she learned to control her anger, the number of nails hammered daily gradually dwindled down. She discovered it was easier to hold her temper than to drive those nails into the fence.
Finally the day came when the girl didn't lose her temper at all. She told her mother about it and the mother suggested that the girl now pull out one nail for each day that she was able to hold her temper. The days passed and the young girl was finally able to tell her mother that all the nails were gone. The mother took her daughter by the hand and led her to the fence.
She said, "You have done well, my daughter, but look at the holes in the fence. The fence will never be the same. When you say things in anger, they leave a scar just like this one."

You can put a knife in a person and draw it out. It won't matter how many times you say "I'm sorry", the wound is still there. A verbal wound is as bad as a physical one.

Friends are very rare jewels, indeed. They make you smile and encourage you to succeed. They lend an ear, they share words of praise and they always want to open their hearts to us.

A True Friend

In ancient Greece, Socrates was reputed to hold knowledge in high esteem. One day one fellow met the great philosopher and said, "Do you know what I just heard about your friend?". "Hold on a minute," Socrates replied. "Before telling me anything I'd like you to pass a little test. It's called the Triple Filter Test.". "Triple filter?". "That's right," Socrates continued. "Before you talk to me about my friend, it might be a good idea to take a moment and filter what you're going to say. That's why I call it the triple filter test. The first filter is Truth. Have you made absolutely sure that what you are about to tell me is true?" "No," the man said, "actually I just heard about it and...". "All right," said Socrates. "So you don't know if it's true or not. Now let's try the second filter, the filter of Goodness. Is what you are about to tell me about my friend something good?" . "No, on the contrary...". "So," Socrates continued, "you want to tell me something bad about him, but you're not certain it's true. You may still pass the test though, because there's one filter left: the filter of Usefulness. Is what you want to tell me about my friend going to be useful to me?" "No, not really." "Well," concluded Socrates, "if what you want to tell me is neither true nor good nor even useful, why tell it to me at all?"

Moral of the Story:
Well we can always participate in loose talks to curb our boredom. But when it comes to you friends its not worth it. Always avoid talking behind the back about your near and dear friends.

Hachiko: A Dog's Story

Movie review:

Gere plays a college professor who finds a lost puppy wondering around a train station. When he can’t find the pup’s owner, he winds up keeping the dog. The professor’s Japanese pal identifies the puppy as an Akita and explains pertinent facts about the breed. He also suggests a name for the pooch – Hachiko, or Hachi, for short.
Hachi and the dog form an extremely strong bond. Every morning, Hachi walks to the terminal with its owner, and every afternoon at five, the dog returns to wait for the professor.
One day the professor doesn’t return from work. Hachi waits for hours, until the professor’s daughter comes to take it home.
Every day for ten long years, Hachi returns to the station in anticipation of its master’s arrival at the train station. Vendors and employees at the terminal feed Hachi, but the dog never accepts another master. Hachi finally dies at the terminal, still waiting for his beloved master.

I think it is a really good movie. I cried when watching this film because it really touching. I recommended this film for people who love dogs :D

Interesting dog facts (1)

Dog is one of my favorite animal. I have two dogs. The types are terrier and yorkshire. I like to play with them. I think they have became my best friends:D
Now, I want to share some interesting facts about my favorite animal. I will write 5 interesting facts about dogs/day. (It is better than if I write more than a hundred at once. Isn't it?!)

1. It is a myth that dogs are color blind. They can actually see in color, just not as vividly as humans. It is akin to our vision at dusk.
2. Dogs DO have better low-light vision than humans because of a special light-reflecting layer behind their retinas.
3. A German Shepherd guide dog led her blind companion the entire 2100 mile Applachian Trail.
4. If never spayed or neutered, a female dog, her mate, and their puppies could product over 66,000 dogs in 6 years!
5. Dogs’ only sweat glands are between their paw pads.

Just wait another posts to see another facts....

A Mothers Love

A little boy came up to his mother in the kitchen one evening while she was fixing supper, and handed her a piece of paper that he had been writing on. After his Mom dried her hands on an apron, she read it, and this is what it said:

For cutting the grass:
$5.00
For cleaning up my room this week:
$1.00
For going to the store for you:
$.50
Baby-sitting my kid brother while you went shopping:
$.25
Taking out the garbage:
$1.00
For getting a good report card:
$5.00
For cleaning up and raking the yard:
$2.00
Total owed:
$14.75

Well, his mother looked at him standing there, and the boy could see the memories flashing through her mind. She picked up the pen, turned over the paper he'd written on, and this is what she wrote:

For the nine months I carried you while you were growing inside me:
No Charge

For all the nights that I've sat up with you, doctored and prayed for you:
No Charge

For all the trying times, and all the tears that you've caused through the years:
No Charge

For all the nights that were filled with dread, and for the worries I knew were ahead:
No Charge

For the toys, food, clothes, and even wiping your nose:
No Charge

Son, when you add it up, the cost of my love is:
No Charge.

When the boy finished reading what his mother had written, there were big tears in his eyes, and he looked straight at his mother and said, "Mom, I sure do love you." And then he took the pen and in great big letters he wrote: "PAID IN FULL".

Moral of the story:
  • You will never how much your parents worth till you become a parent
  • Be a giver not an asker, especially with your parents. there is a lot to give, besides money.

Magic Star

If you add the numbers in every straight line, you will have the same result, which is 167. Just try it to prove it!

A Strange Prime Number

Here are some interesting facts (I think) about prime number that I found. Just enjoy:D

The prime number 73,939,133 has a very strange property. If you keep removing a digit from the right hand end of the number, each of the remaining numbers is also prime. It's the largest number known with this property. Take a look: 73,939,133 and 73,939,13 and 73,939,1 and 73,939 and 7,393 and 739 and 73 and 7 are all prime!

Two frogs

A group of frogs were traveling through the woods, and two of them
fell into a deep pit. When the other frogs saw how deep the pit
was, they told the two frogs that they were as good as dead. The
two frogs ignored the comments and tried to jump up out of the pit
with all their might. The other frogs kept telling them to stop,
that they were as good as dead. Finally, one of the frogs took
heed to what the other frogs were saying and gave up. He fell down
and died.

The other frog continued to jump as hard as he could. Once again,
the crowd of frogs yelled at him to stop the pain and just die. He
jumped even harder and finally made it out. When he got out, the
other frogs said, "Did you not hear us?" The frog explained to
them that he was deaf. He thought they were encouraging him the
entire time.

Moral of the story:

1. There is power of life and death in the tongue. An encouraging
word to someone who is down can lift them up and help them make it
through the day.

2. A destructive word to someone who is down can be what it takes
to kill them.

Be careful of what you say. Speak life to those who cross your
path. The power of words... it is sometimes hard to understand
that an encouraging word can go such a long way. Anyone can speak
words that tend to rob another of the spirit to continue in
difficult times. Special is the individual who will take the time
to encourage another.

Quote of the day

"A friend is someone who knows the song in your heart, and can sing it back to you when you have forgotten the words."
- Donna Roberts

I will be there.......

Today, I want to share this poem to you. The poem is about friendship. Just Enjoy....

If one day you feel like crying...
Call me.
I don't promise that I will make you laugh,
But I can cry with you

If one day you want to run away--
Don't be afraid to call me.
I don't promise to ask you to stop...
But I can run with you

If one day you don't want to listen
to anyone...
Call me.
I promise to be there for you.
And I promise to be very quiet.

But if one day you call...
And there is no answer...
Come fast to see me.
Perhaps I need you.

A Smile ^_^

A smile costs nothing, but gives much
It enriches those who receive, without making poorer those who give.
It takes a moment, but the memory of it sometimes lasts forever.
None is so rich or mighty that he can get along without it, and none is so poor, but that he can be made rich by it.
A smile creates happiness in the home, fosters good will in business, and is the countersign of friendship.
It brings rest to the weary, cheer to the discouraged, sunshine to the sad, and it is nature’s best antidote for trouble.
Yet it cannot be bought, begged, borrowed, or stolen, for it is something that is of no value to anyone, until it is given away.
Some people are too tired to give you a smile;
Give them one of yours, as none needs a smile so much as he who has no more to give.

So give your smile everyday, everytime and everywhere because it costs nothing, but gives much! :)

House of 1000 Mirrors

This time, I want to share this story for everyone. Just enjoy and try to take the positive things from this story :D

Long ago in a small, far away village, there was place known as the House of 1000 Mirrors. A small, happy little dog learned of this place and decided to visit. When he arrived, he bounced happily up the stairs to the doorway of the house. He looked through the doorway with his ears lifted high and his tail wagging as fast as it could. To his great surprise, he found himself staring at 1000 other happy little dogs with their tails wagging just as fast as his. He smiled a great smile, and was answered with 1000 great smiles just as warm and friendly. As he left the House, he thought to himself, "This is a wonderful place. I will come back and visit it often."
In this same village, another little dog, who was not quite as happy as the first one, decided to visit the house. He slowly climbed the stairs and hung his head low as he looked into the door. When he saw the 1000 unfriendly looking dogs staring back at him, he growled at them and was horrified to see 1000 little dogs growling back at him. As he left, he thought to himself, "That is a horrible place, and I will never go back there again."

All the faces in the world are mirrors. What kind of reflections do you see in the faces of the people you meet?
What we reflected from ourselves is what other people see about us.

Math (simple or complicated)

Today, I want to shared my interest in my favorite subject. And my favorite subject is.... MATH. Sounds weird, isn't it?! But I like math since, I know numbers. Hahaha.
This blog title also inspired by math. Some people think math is complicated, but I think, based on my opinion, math is simple. So, It is not really complicated and math is not really matter for me.
There are also math quote that I like:

If people do not believe that mathematics is simple, it is only because they do not realize how complicated life is.  ~John Louis von Neumann

Another reason why I love math because:

The essence of mathematics is not to make simple things complicated, but to make complicated things simple.  ~S. Gudder

Math never makes something complicated. It always makes something become simple. That's why we have to simplify equations, not to complify (make it complicated. Hehehe.)

I really agree with those quote :D.
That's all. In a conclusion, I love MATH!
It's simple and not complicated.

The Boy and The Apple Tree

Today, I want to shared this story to all of you. I hope it will bring a good impacts for you. Here is the story:

A long time ago, there was a huge tree. It loved a little boy very much, the boy loved to come and play around it everyday.
He climbed to the treetop…
Ate the apples…
Take a nap under the shadow…
He loved the tree, and the tree was so happy!
Time went by….

One day, the boy came back to the tree. The tree said, “Come and play with me.”
“I am no longer a kid, I don’t play around a tree anymore. I want toys. I need money to buy them.” said the boy.
“Sorry, but I don’t have money… but you can pick all my apples and sell them. So, you will have money.”
The boy was so excited. He grabbed all the apples on the tree and left happily.
The tree was really happy.
The boy never came back after picked the apples. The tree was sad.

One day, the boy who now turned into a man returned and the tree was excited. “Come and play with me.” the tree said.
“I don’t have time to play. I have to work for my family. We need a house for shelter. Can you help me?”
“Sorry, but I don’t have any house. But you can chop off my branches to build your house.”
So the man cut all the branches of the tree and left happily.
The tree was glad to see him happy. But the man never came back since then. The tree was again lonely and sad.

One hot summer day, the man returned and the tree was delighted. “Come and play with me!” the tree said.
“I am getting old. I want to go sailing to relax myself. Can you give me a boat?” said the man.
“Use my trunk to build your boat. You can sail far away and be happy.” the tree said.
So, the man cut the tree trunk to make a boat. He went sailing and never showed up for a long time.

Finally, the man returned after many years. “Sorry, my boy. But I don’t have anything for you anymore. No more apples for you…” the tree said.
“No problem, I don’t have any teeth to bite.” the man replied.
“No more trunk for you to climb on.”
“I am too old for that now.” the man said.
“I really can’t give you anything… the only thing left is my dying roots.” the tree said with tears.
“I don’t need much now, just a place to rest. I am tired after all these years.” the man replied.
“Good! Old tree roots are the best place to lean on and rest. Come, come sit down with me and rest.”
The man sat down and the tree was glad and smiled with tears…

*No matter how busy you are, share some time with our parents!

Moral of the Story: Our life is no different from this story. In our lives, the apple tree is our parents. We never value our parents until we are in pain. Our parents always love to see us happy and even sacrifice their life and happiness and go through the hardship only to keep us happy. I think, this story is really good. It  make us realized that our parents already gives us anything to make us happy. So, we have to respect them and make them happy all the time :D
